Show #20: Delivering Happiness
With: Deryl Sweeney
Topic: Delivering Happiness
I’ve always been incredibly passionate and intentional about company culture. Both as a leader and a teammate, I’ve always viewed culture as a differentiator in business. I still do.
Nobody flew the culture flag higher than Tony Hsieh and the team he led at Zappos.
“Our number one priority is company culture. Our whole belief is that if you get the culture right, most of the other stuff like delivering great customer service or building a long-term enduring brand will just happen naturally on it’s own.” – Tony Hsieh
He summed up his approach to culture with two words.
Delivering Happiness.
It was the title of a book he wrote and the foundation of what he worked so hard to do as the CEO of Zappos. It also begs a vital question that you can ask in your own business.
What are you delivering?
I was saddened to learn of Tony’s untimely death last week at only 46 years old. But I’m thankful for his influence on me and confident that his impact will live on.
