Show #04: Burning Down the House of Fixed Expectations

With: Deryl Sweeney

Topic: Burning Down the House of Fixed Expectations

I spent an incredible weekend at the lake with my family. For me, no lake weekend is complete without a hearty supply of ice cold beer.

Believe it or not, this week’s topic is brought to you by one of those frosty beverages. I was floating along finishing a Lagunitas Daytime IPA when I saw something I had never noticed written on the can.

“Partly sunny or partly cloudy? Half empty or halfway to another? Sometimes there’s still work to be done… Sometimes there’s still work to avoid. There is freedom in burning down the house of fixed expectations and it confers an undeniable lightness to being.” I can’t get those words out of my head. “…burning down the house of fixed expectations.”

How often are you bringing fixed expectations into your work? Another way to say it is a fixed mindset. What is it costing you? For many of the clients I’ve worked with, they carry certain beliefs about themselves and their businesses into everything they do.

“I’m not creative.”

“I’m not a good enough leader.”

“ Success is good, failure is bad.”

“I’m great at ________.”

“I’m bad at ________.”

“This is how we do things.”

In this show, we’ll talk about burning down the house of fixed expectations and the success that is waiting for you and your business when you do!
